The VAC Charlemagne is VAC's FIRST ever shotgun. It utilizes 10, 15, and 20 round box magazines. It is a gas operated shotgun. It was designed for MOUT ops for teams clearing buildings and need a solid shotgun. It is semi-auto. There was one time a U.S. Army squad was clearing houses, the point man had a Charlemagne. He was going through a fatal funnel or doorway. There waiting for him was a hadji with a NKV-058. After a grenadier threw in a 9-bang flashbang (MFBG. Yes, 9-bang's ARE real) the hadji was too stunned to pull the trigger so when PFC. Flores (We'll just call him Flores, not his real name) saw his face he blasted him with double aught-buck. But that's not the point, the point is that the Charlemagne is a pretty sweet scattergun.
