The MG-16 Komorowski (named after the Polish general Tadeusz Bór-Komorowski) is a general-purpose machine gun designed by Dr. Pawel Nowak of NS Arms Corporation. It is the first machine gun of any kind to be produced by the company.

History Edit

The project was initiated as a response for a potential replacement for the M240 GPMG in current use by the US Armed Forces and many other armed forces worldwide today. In addition, the project also seeks to supplant the PK machine gun seriesand the UKM-2000machine gun in current use by the Polish Armed Forces.

The initial design was proposed back in March 2015. However, seeing the unnecessary need for a new general-purpose machine gun at that time, the design was shelved for future use. The project was brought back to the drawing board in early October. Further refinements and redesigns led to the prototype being produced in early December.

On the GPMG/MMG market, it faces stiff competitions from other simple, yet similarly robust designs, such as that being offered by Alexandrov Design Bureau's PON-109.

Design Details Edit

The MG-16 was designed with ease of carry and modularity in mind. The basic weapon receiver is open to various customisations as preferred by the operator such as different handguards, pistol grips, optical sights, and so on. It operates via a long-stroke gas piston, firing from an open bolt, as do many other machine guns today.

Currently, it is produced in 4 variants, namely the full-sized infantry variant, the assault infantry variant, tank-mounted variant, and other vehicle-mounted variant; this variant is primarily for mounting on various vehicles such as helicopters, jeeps, and attack boats.
